Mother Mangalam Iyaswamy Iyer of the Pure Life Society has been mother to many orphans
Yesterday went to visit this Orphanage, The Pure Life Society.
I first came across this home from the newspaper in Nov 2007, when it featured its President, Mother Mangalam Iyaswamy Iyer who was conferred the Dato' Sultan Sharfuddin Idris Shah (DSIS) by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, which carries the title of Datin Paduka. For the past 50 years, Mother Mangalam has been instrumental in bringing together orphanage children under one roof and helping them to be educated and preserving their unique culture.
From the look of her face in the picture above, I felt peace and calm and instantly I have the feel of Mother Teresa in her. I would like to meet her if possible but was told that I have got to fix an appointment with her Personal Assistant. Since it was an impromptu visit, I thought I will take a rain check.
Went round the building and the children dormitories and saw everything was so well organized and arranged in proper manner. The home houses 77 male and female children (both juniors and seniors) for time being and they are housed in 4 dorms according to their respective age group and sex.
The activities that are carried out under the auspices of the Pure Life Society are two-pronged:-
(1) INSaF - the promotion of Inter-faith Spiritual Fellowship (INSaF) by way of forums, seminars and services.
(2) Welfare - Home for children who are orphans / abandoned / neglected / abused / from broken families / single parents.
Activities of the Home includes Yoga Classes, Singing Classes, Indian Classical Dance, Computer Literacy, Sewing & Handicraft Centre and the Two days in a week Bread-making.
The home also has a gym, a library, a music room equipped with instruments of which are looking for regular volunteers to teach and help-out in this areas.
